I have been an animal lover for as long as I can remember, rescuing them since I was just 11 years old. Every stray dog and cat I found would somehow make its way home with me, much to my mum’s amusement—she often joked that I was running my own rescue!
One of my earliest rescues was a litter of kittens that were about to be drowned in a nearby river. Horrified, I convinced the boy to give them to me and took them home. That moment solidified my determination to save and protect animals.
As I got older, I volunteered at the RSPCA, but one heartbreaking experience changed everything. One of my tasks was to wheel a trolley of kittens to the vet for euthanasia. I was told they were sick, but it shattered me. I knew there had to be a better way—we should be saving these animals, not ending their lives.
Though my love for animals never faded, I pursued a career in nursing and later had my beautiful children. However, the call to help never left me.
When devastating fires swept through Conundra, I knew I had to do something. I helped organize an emergency fundraiser, and in no time, we delivered two truckloads of essential supplies—everything from water, food, and medical items to hay for livestock and protein shakes for firefighters. Witnessing an entire community come together in their time of need was something I’ll never forget.
A few years later, when my beloved dogs passed away at 13 and 19 years old, I thought I could never love another. But as time went on, I realized my heart had room—not just for one or two, but for many.
The Rescue That Started It All
The first dog that truly set me on my path was Rebel. Facing imminent euthanasia, he had only one chance: someone had to save him. A friend and I made the journey to St George in the middle of the 2019 floods, racing against time with water lapping at the bridge and roads closing around us. It was a nerve-wracking, emotional trip, but we made it. Rebel’s life was spared, and he now thrives in his forever home.
Then came Sheba. I saw a desperate plea for help—a girl trying everything to save a dog labeled as "dangerous." No one wanted her, and her time in the pound was running out. I couldn’t look away. I went to the pound, and when I left, Sheba was by my side.
The staff asked me, “Out of all the dogs, why her?”
My answer was simple: I didn’t choose Sheba—Sheba chose me.
Sheba turned out to be the most loving, incredible girl, and I’m grateful every single day that she’s part of my life.
Why I Started My Own Rescue
I founded JUDD Dog Rescue because I believe every dog deserves a voice, an advocate, and a second chance.
Dogs have been my greatest teachers—they taught me trust when I had none, love when I felt unworthy, and hope when life was at its hardest. I want to help people build deep, meaningful connections with their dogs because I’ve seen firsthand how they heal the broken, bring joy to the lonely, and love unconditionally.
At the end of the day, dogs are more than just pets—they are family. They celebrate with us in our happiest moments and stand by us in our darkest times. They truly are a person’s best friend, and I will continue fighting to give them the lives they deserve.
